Perth is such a perfect place to eat alfresco, with an abundance of national parks and beauty spots to choose from.

Aside from the kangaroo poop, Yanchep National Park is a great place for a day out with a picnic. There's lots of shade and lots of picnic tables to choose from. You can make a day of it by taking a trail walk, visiting the caves, checking out the koalas or by going kangaroo spotting.

Manning Lake in Hamilton Hill is the perfect spot for a picnic, whether for families or couples. A small lake which takes 15 minutes to walk around the paved path, with plenty of barbeques provided throughout the grassed area. There is also a large playground area for the kids. Nearby is a historical homestead to look through as well.

I love Cottesloe Beach! Apart from the fact that it's a great spot for a swim, it's also my favourite place for a late afternoon picnic with the family (plenty of picnic tables and gas barbecues), and it's magical watching the sun set over the Indian Ocean afterwards.

The river at Crawley is a lovely spot - with an amazing view of the city to the north, all the way across South Perth and down to the southern suburbs, it's extremely peaceful. Watch the boats go by as they return to the yacht club, watch planes take off from the airport behind the city skyline, or take a bocci set and compete against your fellow picnickers. This spot is great!
