When Perth's long, scorching-hot summer arrives most of us are keen to discover where the best places are to cool down. While we've got a terrific choice of top beaches to choose from, many people prefer to avoid the ocean in favour of swimming in fresh-water rivers and water holes.

What do you think are Perth's best swimming holes? Are they far from the city and is there plenty of water there, even in the middle of summer? Is pollution a problem?

I go walking every week with my dog along the Swan River down at Bassendean to a place called Sandy Cove.

It is a beautiful, peaceful spot where the dogs swim and the water always looks so inviting in a few particular spots.

Have never ventured in though as do not know what is on the bottom!

I've never swam in the Swan River near Perth as I've heard it's very polluted, although it doesn't particularly appear to be. However, years ago I swam in the river, upstream at the Walyunga National Park. Magic!

I've also seen people swimming in the waterhole at the bottom of Serpentine Falls, although I think I also saw signs saying this isn't recommended.
The best swimming hole - in my opponion, is the beach...which is not fresh water but it is still a great place to swim. Have not venture inland, but the last time we did swim was at a lake in Donnybrook. We had a lot of fun!
