Situated at the mouth of the Swan River, Fremantle has been a busy port since the early days of colonial settlement. These days it still serves as a hub for a wide variety of cruises, both up the river and across the ocean to Rottnest Island and other places of interest.
Have you ever been on a cruise from Fremantle, and if so, do you recommend it? What are the best cruises that depart from Fremantle?
Im not sure if you mean overseas cruises now from Fremantle.
I believe the ships that sail from Fremantle on an overseas cruise, are vessels that have generally been to the eastern states for a few years and are then replaced with newer ones.
I went on one P & O ship twice from Sydney and it broke down the second time, and first time toilets were blocked for 3 days and air conditioner was stuck on cold.
So I do not recommend a cruise out of fremantle.
Fremantle to Rottnest is always fun as are the ones that go along the swan river -some stop for lunch and there are also dinner cruises, though I have not tried these.
The Leeuwin is a traditional sailing ship based in Fremantle and offers a variety of cruises and longer voyages throughout the year. While the longer voyages are generally aimed at youth, from late October to late April it's possible for people of any age to take a three hour cruise on the vessel. Check out their website for more information!
As well as the other cruises that others have mentioned here (Rottnest Is, Swan River, etc), it's possible to take whale-watching cruises from Fremantle, Perth and (I think!) Hillary's Boat Harbour. Whale Watching Perth is one company that offers these. Take a look at their website!
